“It’s an obsession,” Jean-Jacques Sempé says, of his
cover for the new issue. “I would love to become a child on the beach once
again. It may sound infantile, but that’s the feeling I long for: to be a child
without care, taking in the immensity of the ocean and still feeling safe.”
Sempe’ has the distinction of doing more New Yorker covers
than probably any other artist ( he has done more than 110 !)
